History: Maryland developed a pilot program (MOSH) that was approved by Federal OSHA in the late spring of Fiscal Year 1999.

History: Virginia has a program in place, Virginia VPP, which has been approved by Federal OSHA. This program has the same requirements as Federal OSHA VPP except that the site must have an injury and LWDI rate below the industry average for the SIC where available or the national average. In addition, the Virginia VPP does not include the construction industry. The program offers a Star and Merit level and is open to worksites in general industry only.
