VPPPA Scholarships

In an ongoing effort to advance the field of occupational safety and health, the
VPPPA has established a scholarship program for VPPPA members and their families.

The VPPPA June Brothers Scholarship (.pdf) - for students pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree in the safety/health/environmental field. This scholarship is open to students enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university. View criteria
The VPPPA Stephen Brown Scholarship (.pdf) - for students pursuing a degree in the trades. This scholarship is open to students enrolled or enrolling in a vocational school, college or university. View criteria
The VPPPA William "Sully" Sullivan Scholarship (.pdf) - for an employee at a VPPPA full member site who has made significant contributions to the VPP program at his/her site. This scholarship is open to students enrolled or enrolling in a vocational school, college or university. View criteria
The DELTA/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship (.pdf) - for students who are employed at or have parents/grandparents employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site and actively engage in occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach in their schools, communities and/or workplace. This scholarship is open to students enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university (graduate or undergraduate level) or a vocational school, pursing a degree in the environmental, occupational safety and/or health field. Scholarship winners will be contacted in mid-May and invited to attend the VPPPA National Conference at a reduced conference rate. Attendance at the national conference is encouraged, but not required. Scholarships will be issued by early August.
Award Criteria for the VPPPA June Brothers and Steven Brown Scholarships
The VPPPA June Brothers and Stephen Brown scholarships were established in 2005 to recognize
students who are leaders and role models in their schools and communities and who are entering
either the environmental, safety and health areas or the trades (respectively). Each of
these annual scholarships is granted to one student who is either employed at a VPPPA Full member site
or to the child/grandchild of a member.
- Applications will be accepted from students who either work at a current VPP site or who are the children/grandchildren of an employee of a VPP site. The VPP site must be a VPPPA Full member in good standing to qualify.
- Students must be pursuing a degree (undergraduate or graduate) in the either the trades or the environmental, safety and health areas. Students can be either full-time or part-time.
- All applicants must complete the application for the scholarship program that they are eligible for and submit an official transcript, reference letter from a high school teacher, a professor from the University they are attending or a supervisor at a current job, and a reference letter from the relative working at the VPP site. All applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0.
- Other criteria used to evaluate all applicants include demonstrated leadership skills in extracurricular activities, involvement in professional organizations, communication skills and other awards and honors earned at educational institutions.
Award Criteria for the VPPPA William "Sully" Sullivan Scholarship
During the February 2007 VPPPA National Board of Directors meeting, the board established the
VPPPA William "Sully" Sullivan Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to recognize an employee at a
VPPPA full member site who has made significant contributions to the VPP program at his/her site.
This scholarship is open to employees enrolled in or enrolling in a vocational school, college or university.
- Applications will be accepted from students who work at a current VPP site. The VPP site must be a VPPPA Full member in good standing to qualify.
- Applicants must demonstrate their contributions to VPP at their site.
- Students must be pursuing a degree (undergraduate or graduate) either full-time or part-time.
- All applicants must submit a completed application, an official transcript and a reference letter relating to your VPP involvement at your site from a site VPP coordinator, operations manager, site EHS staff, OSHA, Regional VPPPA Chapter Chairperson, etc. All applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0.
Award Criteria for the DELTA/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship
The DELTA/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship intends to recognize students who actively
engage in occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach in their schools, communities and/or
workplace. Eligible students are enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university
(graduate or undergraduate level) or a vocational school, pursing a degree in the environmental,
occupational safety and/or health field. They are either employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate
member site or the child/grandchild of an individual employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member
site.
The scholarship supports “Delta’s Force for Global Good” initiative that focuses on Breast Cancer
awareness, The Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and environmental responsibility.
- Applications will be accepted from students who either work at a current VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site or who are the children/grandchildren of an employee of a VPPPA member site. The site must be a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member in good standing to qualify.
- Students must be pursuing a degree in the environmental, occupational safety and/or health areas. Students can be either full-time or part-time.
- All applicants must complete the application for this scholarship and submit an official transcript, reference letter from a high school teacher, a professor from the university they are attending or a supervisor at a current job, and a reference letter from the relative working at the VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate site. All applicants must have had or have at least a 2.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0.
- Other criteria used to evaluate all applicants include demonstrated occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach efforts in their schools, communities and/or workplace, leadership skills, extracurricular activities, involvement in professional organizations, communication skills and other awards and honors earned at educational institutions or at their place of employment.
- Preference will be given to applicants from the airline and associated aviation industries. Applicant must state how the VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site is associated with the aviation industry.
