In an ongoing effort to advance the field of occupational safety and health,
VPPPA has established a scholarship program for VPPPA members and their families.
Award Criteria for the DELTA/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship
The DELTA/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship intends to recognize students who actively
engage in occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach in their schools, communities and/or
workplace. Eligible students are enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university
(graduate or undergraduate level) or a vocational school, pursing a degree in the environmental,
occupational safety and/or health field. They are either employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate
member site or the child/grandchild of an individual employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member
site.
The scholarship supports "Delta's Force for Global Good" initiative that focuses on Breast Cancer
awareness, The Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and environmental responsibility.
- Applications will be accepted from students who either work at a current VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site or who are the children/grandchildren of an employee of a VPPPA member site. The site must be a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member in good standing to qualify.
- Students must be pursuing a degree in the environmental, occupational safety and/or health areas. Students can be either full-time or part-time.
- All applicants must complete the application for this scholarship and submit an official transcript, reference letter from a high school teacher, a professor from the university they are attending or a supervisor at a current job, and a reference letter from the relative working at the VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate site. All applicants must have had or have at least a 2.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0.
- Other criteria used to evaluate all applicants include demonstrated occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach efforts in their schools, communities and/or workplace, leadership skills, extracurricular activities, involvement in professional organizations, communication skills and other awards and honors earned at educational institutions or at their place of employment.
- Preference will be given to applicants from the airline and associated aviation industries. Applicant must state how the VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site is associated with the aviation industry.
