History

The Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association (VPPPA) was born from a passion for safety and a dedication to the VPP Participants.

In 1984, OSHA hosted the first official gathering of the VPP Participants, to share their knowledge, experience and safety expertise. However, OSHA was unable to host a second meeting the following year. Realizing the significance and benefit of this meeting, VPP sites Georgia Power and Mobil Chemical volunteered to sponsor the September 1985 meeting. It was during this meeting that the VPPPA was formed, to create a living network of safety professionals and volunteers, dedicated to safety.

Over the decades, the VPPPA has grown from 30 participants to an established community of over 2,200 member sites. Today our mission is to be a leader in safety and health excellence through cooperation among communities, workers, industries and governments.
