VPPPA National Award & Scholarship Winners
VPPPA is committed to highlighting and rewarding those individuals, sites and companies that
enhance the field of occupational safety and health and the environment.
Congratulations to the 2011 VPPPA Award Winners:
2011 VPPPA Safety & Health Achievement Program
The VPPPA Safety and Health Achievement Program was created in 1997 to formally
recognize the contributions of employees at VPPPA member sites to the field of safety,
health and environmental program management. The program is an opportunity for hourly,
non-safety and health professionals to be recognized for their knowledge of safety
and health issues and outreach activities at their worksite and in the community.
In 2011, six individuals were honored with the VPPPA Safety & Health Achievement Award
at the 27th Annual National VPPPA Conference in New Orleans, LA. |

Delta/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship
The Delta/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship is designed to recognize students who actively
engage in occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach in their school, community and/or
workplace. Eligible students are enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university (graduate or
undergraduate level) or a vocational school, pursing a degree in the environmental, occupational safety
and/or health field. They are either employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site or are the
child/grandchild of an individual employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site. The
scholarship supports Delta's "Force for Global Good" initiative that focuses on Breast Cancer awareness, The
Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and environmental responsibility. |
Amber Clark Amber Clark's grandfather, Dick Brown, works at Bechtel National Inc. in
Kennewick, WA. She will pursue her nursing degree from Columbia Basin College in the fall. |
Cassandra Brown Cassandra Brown, the daughter of Scott Brown from Verso Paper in Jay, ME,
is a rising Junior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, pursuing a degree in Kinesiology & Public Health Sciences. |
Jennifer Tyra Jennifer Tyra is entering her sophomore year at Mercer University. She is studying biology and
her father, Michael Tyra, works for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, GA. |
Kaleigh Kopacz Kaleigh Kopacz is pursuing a nursing degree at Endicott College. Her father,
Robert Kopacz, works at Kanzaki Specialty Papers Inc. in Ware, MA. |
Taisha Thornton Taisha Thornton will begin attending the University of Northern Iowa
next Fall and plans to major in pre-medicine. Her mother, Tammy Thornton, works at Rockwell Collins in Decorah, Iowa. |
