VPPPA National Award & Scholarship Winners

VPPPA is committed to highlighting and rewarding those individuals, sites and companies that enhance the field of occupational safety and health and the environment.

Congratulations to the 2010 VPPPA Award Winners:


2009 VPPPA Safety & Health Achievement Program

The VPPPA Safety and Health Achievement Program was created in 1997 to formally recognize the contributions of employees at VPPPA member sites to the field of safety, health and environmental program management. The program is an opportunity for hourly, non-safety and health professionals to be recognized for their knowledge of safety and health issues and outreach activities at their worksite and in the community.

In 2010, five individuals were honored with the VPPPA Safety & Health Achievement Award at the 26th Annual National VPPPA Conference in Orlando, FL.

VPPPA Annual Awards for Outreach and Innovation

The VPPPA Annual Awards for Outreach and Innovation recognize those VPPPA member sites and individuals that have made exceptional contributions to the mission of the VPPPA during the previous year. These pioneers in safety and health have shared their knowledge of safe practices with others or developed new techniques to create a safer, healthier work environment.

VPPPA June Brothers Scholarship

The VPPPA June Brothers Scholarship is intended for students pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree in the safety/health/environmental field. This scholarship is open to students enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university.

Rebecca White
Rebecca is the daughter of Scott White, an employee at Honeywell EM&T in Kansas City, MO. In the fall semester of 2010 Rebecca will begin pursuing her degree in chemical engineering with an environmental emphasis at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.


VPPPA Stephen Brown Scholarship

The VPPPA Stephen Brown Scholarship is intended for students pursuing a degree in the trades. This scholarship is open to students enrolled or enrolling in a vocational school, college or university.

Lucas Harles
Lucas’ father Kenneth Harles is currently employed at Cargill Corn Milling in Wahpeton, ND. Lucas will enter North Dakota State College of Science in the fall semester of 2010, where he will study automotive technology.


VPPPA William "Sully" Sullivan Scholarship

During the February 2007 VPPPA National Board of Directors meeting, the board established the VPPPA William "Sully" Sullivan Scholarship in honor of our friend, Sully Sullivan. This scholarship was designed to recognize an employee at a VPPPA Full member site who has made significant contributions to the VPP program at his/her site. This scholarship is open to employees enrolled in or enrolling in a vocational school, college or university.

Rodney Stokley
Rodney has been involved in the occupational safety field for over 20 years and is currently an employee at Norbord Texas LP. Rodney is enrolled at Columbia Southern University and is actively working toward a degree in occupational safety and health.


Delta/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship

The Delta/VPPPA Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarship is designed to recognize students who actively engage in occupational safety, health and/or environmental outreach in their school, community and/or workplace. Eligible students are enrolled in or enrolling in a college or university (graduate or undergraduate level) or a vocational school, pursing a degree in the environmental, occupational safety and/or health field. They are either employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site or are the child/grandchild of an individual employed at a VPPPA Full, Corporate or Associate member site. The scholarship supports Delta's "Force for Global Good" initiative that focuses on Breast Cancer awareness, The Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and environmental responsibility.

Cassandra Brown
Cassandra’s father Scott Brown is currently employed by Verso Paper in Jay, ME. Cassandra will be continuing her double major in Public Health and Kinesiology as a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Blake Feuerhelm
Blake is the son of Brian Feuerhelm, a current employee at Rockwell Collins in Decorah, IA. In the upcoming academic year, Blake will begin his studies in Civil Engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Platteville.

Lindsay Woolf Grainger
Lindsay is a two-year employee of Delta Airlines. She is currently pursuing a Graduate Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia after receiving a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Emory University.

Erin Kempf
Erin’s father Rick Kempf is currently employed at Valero Texas City Refinery in Texas City, TX. In this upcoming academic year Erin will be continuing her studies in the Physician Assistant (PA) program at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Benjamin Nickerson
Benjamin’s father Al Nickerson is an employee with the Massachusetts Military Reservation. In the fall semester of 2010, Benjamin will begin pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA.
