2021 William “Sully” Sullivan Scholarship
“My education at Columbia Southern University was made possible thanks to VPPPA. I began working at a VPP Star site in 2020 as a VPP Coordinator and Unit Safety Representative, I was also attending another college during this time to earn my associate’s.
That next year I started taking courses at CSU to earn my bachelor’s, and around halfway through 2021, I received the William “Sully” Sullivan scholarship through the VPPPA. This scholarship afforded me the opportunity to pursue my education without the usual worry of paying for education costs after tuition assistance for the rest of the year. After graduating in late 2022, I now possess a bachelor’s degree and I’m a safety and occupational health specialist and currently manage the site’s participation in VPP as a Star participant.”
How is my Giving Tuesday donation used?
The VPPPA Scholarship Program provides four scholarships to assist students who are dedicated to safety, health, or environmental studies at the vocational, undergraduate, or graduate level. These scholarships are awarded to individuals who have displayed outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to safety and health within their educational institutions and communities.
2022 June Brothers Scholarship
“Receiving the June Brothers Scholarship last year helped me continue my education at Oregon State University. I was provided financial support along with encouragement to continue my educational and career goals.
Receiving the scholarship helped inspire me to want to continue a career in safety which allowed me to get an internship at Hanford this summer. I am currently interning for Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene for the Central Plateau Cleanup Company. I have been able to collaborate with industrial hygienists and learn about the key role they play. After graduating I hope to become an industrial hygienist myself so I can help support workers’ health and safety.”
Everyone has the power to make a difference, and every act of generosity, no matter how small, makes a meaningful contribution.
This Giving Tuesday, when you contribute to the VPPPA scholarship fund, you play a crucial role in shaping the future of occupational health and safety professionals across the nation. Your generosity ensures that aspiring students receive the essential education, resources, and training required to work safely and effectively in their chosen field, empowering them to focus on their studies without concerns about workplace hazards.
2021 Sergeant Safety Scholarship
“As an active-duty member of the United States Air Force, the Sergeant Safety scholarship provided me with the means to complete my Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene from Montana Technological University.
Additionally, the scholarship’s impact extended beyond my academic pursuits. It instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude and a desire to give back. I am now committed to applying the knowledge and skills I acquired to improve workplace safety and protect the health of individuals in industrial settings.
This scholarship was not just financial aid; it was an investment in my future and a catalyst for personal and professional growth. I cannot thank the generous donors enough for their belief in my potential and their contribution to my success.”
