Congratulations to our January Member of the Month, Maureen Kamphaus! Read more about her here.
VPPPA member company, Roco Rescue, announced the appointment of Chris Carlsen as the company’s new Director of Training.
Roco Rescue's press release noted, "A graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Special Ops Program Management course, Carlsen spent more than twenty years as a municipal firefighter with Albuquerque Fire Rescue. There, he served as fire suppression training instructor and later as program manager for technical rescue, ensuring his teams had all the skills and equipment necessary to perform the many technical rescue sub-specialties required of a large municipal fire-rescue department.
Carlsen holds a SPRAT Level II certification and is an ITRA qualified instructor and assessor. He also developed the curriculum and taught fire science at Central New Mexico Community College. Carlsen has worked part-time with Roco Rescue since 2004, first as a standby rescue team member, and later as an instructor. He was promoted to Chief Instructor in 2012 and has served in that role for the past 8 years while concurrently serving the city of Albuquerque as a firefighter.
Recently, Carlsen was instrumental in designing the 2019 Rescue Challenge, Roco Rescue’s acclaimed annual event that attracts technical rescue teams from industrial and municipal agencies nationwide. As Roco Rescue’s Director of Training, he will be responsible for all aspects of the training segment of the business, ensuring the curricula meets customer needs and that it is delivered by a world-class team of instructors."

Congratulations to the new member sites who joined in December 2019. Welcome to VPPPA!
Don't wait to start being involved in either one [VPP and VPPPA]. There are so many great things to come from being a member of VPPPA or taking the leap into becoming VPP certified. Look at it this way, it is only going to make you and your organization better in the long run. And remember, you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great! - Bret Skellenger
"Bar far and away it is the people that you meet that makes the Association so appealing. When I was hired by Access Health Systems, I went through orientation, they made it clear that safety is a big deal. Initially, I didn’t get it, until I went to my first VPPPA Conference." - Kevin O'Brien
