What is VPP?

The Voluntary Protection Programs is a safety and health management system designed to promote excellence in safety and health. Adopted by OSHA in 1982, designed to recognize facilities with outstanding occupational safety and health management systems. VPP is composed of three different programs:

  • Star Sites
  • Merit Sites
  • Star Demonstration Sites

Over 2,200 worksites in over 400 industries participate in VPP, giving assurance to one million American workers every workday. A VPP worksite encompasses worker safety and health excellence by employees, management and senior leadership involvement; worksite analysis; hazard prevention and control and safety and health training.

Interested in VPP?

Our VPP 101 presentation provides an overview of the program, its requirements, as well as how the Association can help you on your journey.

Do I have to be VPP to join VPPPA?

No! The VPPPA offers a variety of membership levels to accommodate sites at all points in their safety and health journey. Membership is open to sites who are actively pursuing VPP or passionate about improving the safety and health practices.
